The Empathy Map has been designed by Dave Gray at XPLANE many years ago. I use it regularly as an eye-opening tool for my students in the usability- and UX- lab to develop understanding and empathy for specific users (aka target group). The update now offers on one hand a didactic guided structure to be processed, which is good for newbies. Furthermore it includes a new section to define the user and become clear about his or her specific role and tasks in a particular situation, so that the next steps can be done with a clearer focus.

Find a detailed description about the update and directions for its use here (opens medium.com article by Dave Gray).

Download the updated canvas here (opens the canvas as .pdf at the gamestorming.com site).

Thanks to Dave Gray for the update.
